Nike And Apple Revolutionize The Fitness World

Nike And Apple Revolutionize The Fitness World

For years, there have been rumors of Apple and Nike expanding their partnership for new products designed solely for fitness. While the Nike integration feature is currently available in every iOS device, the two companies have not maximized their joint efforts. However, with Nike letting go much of its team and their emphasis on a stronger partnership with Apple, the possibility of new fitness products from the two in the foreseeable future are great.

“Building on these successful products and services, Nike and Apple are partnering on emerging technologies to create better solutions for athletes,” said KeJuan Williams, a Nike Spokesman.

Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, has recently been sporting the Nike FuelBand bracelet at several of his recent events. It has been rumored that Nike and Apple will be pairing up to create a new FuelBand with many more creative features that would benefit users in the fitness world.  The branch of the Nike Company that was previously responsible for the band has had a large lay off and will not be manufacturing any more wearable heart or caloric monitors. This unprecedented act hints at a partnership and opens a new window for fitness products in which Apple could release.

“Obviously Apple has enjoyed a healthy relationship with them [Nike] over the years. Our view has been that the fitness band will largely fold into the smartwatch in the future and most of the players will exit the market. If I were them, makes more sense to partner with Apple, but that is just my opinion.” said Brian White, a Cantor Fitzgerald & Co. analyst and avid follower of Apple.

As the two billion dollar industries work to update the technology, information about new products are not yet able to be disclosed. Although we do not know much about the new bands, they have been said to feature “fabrics that adjust to body temperature, that harden on impact, that change color in response to electrical signals or monitor vital signs.” According to Nike CEO Mark Parker.

“I believe Apple has shown how serious they are about transforming the fitness industry. With their recent hiring decisions, they’re proving that tackling mobile health and fitness is a priority for them moving forward,” said an anonymous Apple source.

Although we do not yet know what products are in store for the future, we do know that this collaboration could be most innovative one yet. In June, a public meeting called the World Wide Developers Conference will be held to discuss Apple’s new software developments.
