Megan Huntsman, a 39-year-old Utah woman, was arrested on Saturday April 12th, after authorities found seven dead babies packed away in cardboard boxes in her garage.

“A family member was cleaning out the garage and came across a box that looked suspicious. Upon opening the box they found the infant inside,” Captain Michael Roberts of the Pleasant Grove Police Department told ABC news.

Earlier that day, officers received a worried phone call from her estranged husband, Darren West,  that claimed that they came home to find a non living baby in a box that appeared to be “full term”. After authorities received a search warrant, they inspected the house before finding six more babies packed in containers in the garage. Each child was individually wrapped in cloth and placed in a plastic bag before being tightly sealed away. Huntsman was later arrested and booked at the Utah County jail for six accounts of murder.

“During her interview, Ms. Huntsman admitted that between 1996 and 2006, she gave birth to at least seven babies at the Pleasant Grove residence, and that all of the babies, but one, were born alive, and that she either strangles or suffocated the babies immediately after they were born,” read a probable cause statement.

On Monday, Huntsman attended court where she was assigned a $6 million dollar bail. Friends and neighbors were shocked as they claimed to never have known that Huntsman was ever pregnant.  Even her two 20-year-old daughters had never known of the pregnancies, which were believed to have occurred when Huntsman was still with her Husband, West. Their longtime neighbor Sharon Chipman had even stated that she let Huntsman babysit her young grandson “for years”. Police and investigators are working to draw a theory as to why she committed the murders, but they are not disclosing anything yet to the public.

“We are mourning this tragic loss of life and we are trying to stay strong and help each other through this awful event,” said an anonymous source.
