Freedom’s First Annual Multicultural Festival

Freedoms First Annual Multicultural Festival

Nic Clarke, Staff Writer

Freedom High School is a very diverse place. While the campus is a collage of many cultures, backgrounds and ethnicities, it is also very segregated.  In order to bring together the segregated cliques and expose students to different beliefs, teachers and students have organized an event called the Multicultural Festival.

“Taste, see, smell, hear the World,” is the motto of Freedom’s first annual event.

“The Festival will educate students on different beliefs and ways of life around the world, as well as promote cultures and diversity at Freedom,” according to Mrs. Oliva-Diaz, Spanish teacher at Freedom High School.

The event will take place on Friday, May 6th from 5pm to 8pm in the gym at Freedom. Flags from the various different countries will be represented by a flag during a small parade. The entire festival, from the set up to the clean up, is being taken care of by students.

The event will feature many activities and presentations, including food from different countries all over the world.

Furthermore there will be dances that would normally be performed in places such as India, Palestine, the Caribbean and many more.  The dances will be performed by students representing their country.

There will also be a teacher door decorating contest.  Classroom doors throughout the campus will represent the countries and expose styles of art that would normally be in those countries.

This is the first year the Multicultural Festival is taking place at Freedom and students are expected to come out and enjoy a good time and be educated.
