In our teens, we are often oblivious to how cringe-worthy our trends are and just how much we will hate them by the time we are 40. Trends like “dabbing” and Harambe memes are proof that show just how easy it is to get wrapped up in the in crowd.

  1. Vintage Glasses: The demand for vintage, circular frames, is on the rise again. The glasses, which were once the signature accessory of the legendary musician John Lennon, are now being worn by every hipster.

  1. Addiction to Social Media: In this day and age, it is more common than ever to be glued to a phone rather than engaging in actual conversation. With new technology abound, everything is at the tip of your fingers, except the opportunity to create memories, of course.

  1. “Challenges”: In 2012, the “Cinnamon Challenge” struck the internet and it has snowballed ever since. More challenges soon followed, from everything from eating spicy foods and to dancing on beat. We allow ourselves to be hilariously humiliated all in the name of the internet.

  1. Dreaded Haircuts: Originating in the 90’s, the throwback hairstyle is making its comeback. The style consists of a tapered haircut with sprouting dread locks on top. It has been adopted by members of the urban community yet again with new versions of the hairstyle, such as RnB singer Chris Brown’s.

  1. Bellbottom Leggings: This craze took the world of pop culture by storm this past summer. The pants have a legging like material and a bellbottom opening. Women are able to rock the modernized, old-school fashion.

  1. Dances: The Dab, Hit Them Folks, and JuJu on the Beat are the names of the hyped-up, popular dances that are plastered all over social media. While some have perfected the dances and others struggle to keep up, it is certain that in the future, we will view these dances just as we view old-school dances like the cabbage patch or the running man today.

  1. Septum Piercing: This painful piercing, located in the septum of the nose, has become increasingly popular. The nose ring resembles that of a bull or even a door knocker, but its silly look hasn’t stopped anyone from getting it or purchasing faux septum piercing jewelry.

  1. Relationship “Goals”: It is very rare to see a genuine relationship these days. Couples hold their relationship to unrealistic standards, disregarding the trials and tribulations every relationship encounters. The goals of a relationship have changed from building a bond of love and affection to building a fan base with pictures and videos.

  1. Dad Caps: According to today’s generation, it is a trend to have the style of a forty-year old dad with their perennial baseball caps. However, fun and expressive embroidery designs give flavor to the bland accessory.

  1. Harambe Memes: With the untimely death of Harambe, a gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo, many expressed their grief through humorous memes. Whiles some found the memes to be quite amusing, others felt it was too soon to joke about Harambe’s painful death. Either way, long live Harambe.
