Giants Win World Series

If you asked anybody at the beginning of the season who they thought would be in the World Series they probably wouldn’t have said the Kansas City Royals. The last time the Royals made the playoffs was 27 years ago and a legend by the name of George Brett was playing third base for KC and led them to their first world series where they beat the St Louis Cardinals.

After nearly three decades of frustration, the Kansas City Royals have finally punched their ticket to the fall classic. They did so by winning a wild card game against the Oakland A’s, sweeping the Los Angeles Angels into the American League Division Series, and then finally sweeping the Baltimore Orioles in the American League Championship Series to go to the World Series. The Royals are embroiled with the San Francisco Giants out of the National League where the boys from the Bay area beat the St Louis Cardinals in five games to advance to the World Series.

In game one, the San Francisco Giants slaughtered the Kansas City Royals by a score of 7-1. The game was pretty much over in the first inning when Gregor Blanco set the tone for the game by smoking one right up the middle and the rounding first base aggressively and then making it to second on a fly out by Joe Panik. He later scored on a double by Pablo Sandoval. Then with two outs a full count and a man on second, Hunter Pence hit a home run on a line drive to center to make it 3-0 before the royals got out of the inning. In the third inning, the Giants and Madison Bumgarner managed their way out of a bases loaded jam to keep the Royals off the board. In the top of the fourth, the Giants added two more runs on a Micheal Morse line drive to center field to score Hunter Pence to make it 4-0. Then, the Royals walked Gregor Blanco with the bases loaded which brought in Brandon Belt to make it 5-0. The next score would happen in the top of the 7th when the Giants added two more runs to make it 7-0 on Joe Panik and Pablo Sandoval RBI’s. The Royals added there only run in the bottom of the 7th on a Salvador Perez home run. Closing the door on game one, Hunter Strickland shut down the Royals in the 9th to give the Giants the victory.

Update: In game two of the World Series, the Kansas City royals did exactly what the San Francisco Giants did to them in game one: they beat the Giants 7-2. In the first inning, it looked like it was going to be another blowout for the Giants when the first batter of the game Gregor Blanco took a 98 MPH fastball over the right field wall becoming the first Giants player to open a World Series game with a home run and the tenth player to open a game with a home run in the MLB. But then, the royals came back and answered the Giants run in the first inning by scoring one of their own on a Billy Butler single. In the next inning, the Royals took the lead on an Alcedis Escobar double which scored Omar Infante to make it 2-1. The giants would later tie it at 2-2 in the fourth again on a Brandon Belt double.
