Boga The Baller

Meet Junior Jazmine Boga, the player on the varsity volleyball whom you might spot wearing a different colored jersey than her teammates. No, this is not the result of a lack of communication between the team when deciding what color uniform to wear. This different colored jersey signifies that Boga is the libero of the team, the head of defense. It is no surprise that Boga has been playing varsity volleyball throughout the course of her volleyball career due to her experience in the sport.

“I’ve played volleyball for nine years,” said the junior. “My freshman year I tried out and made varsity which was a surprise because I didn’t think I would have made it my freshman year. I was also chosen to play for the second national team my sophomore and junior years.”

After playing club volleyball for the majority of her time as a volleyball player, Boga recently quit for various reasons.

“It was probably one of the hardest decisions I had to make,” said the libero. “Not only was it just hard to leave but I let a big part of my life go by quitting. Being an athlete, it’s always hard to quit sports but volleyball basically turned into my life so it was as if I lost a piece of me with it.”

Despite the fact that Boga has decided to quit playing on the club level, she will continue to play for Freedom in her senior year.

The junior is not only gifted on the court, but in academics as well. Maintaining a 4.0 GPA is hard to do while playing a sport and the amount of AP classes Boga is taking this year. Hopefully, with her stellar grades and success in volleyball, Boga will be able to attend her dream school, the University of Miami.

“I’ve always wanted to go to the University of Miami,” said Boga. “Ever since I was younger, the ‘U’ has always been one of the favorites in my family so it kind of just became one of my favorites.”

Although many know Jazmine for her reputation on the court, many don’t know that she enjoys cooking in her free time.

“I love cooking,” said Boga. “I love to cook with my mom because it’s something that’s fun and stress-relieving for me.”

Another fun fact about the junior is that she has broken ten bones, but not for the reasons that you might think.

“None of my broken bones came from playing sports. It was all from games and things I probably shouldn’t have been doing at the time,” joked Boga.

Throughout the years, Jazmine Boga has made many friendships at Freedom due to her friendly nature and will definitely continue to thrive.

“I’ve known Jazmine for four years and she is always positive and willing to help other people,” said junior Tyler Bray.
