TEACHER BABIES

TEACHER+BABIES

Despite what you’d like to believe, you’re being taught by people who aren’t much older than you are. Most of the teachers at Freedom High School are in their late 20s to early 30s. It’s common, during that span of time, for people to have kids; several of your teachers have had children in the last three to four years. Tyler Selbrade’s son, Elias, was born only a year and a half ago.

“His favorite thing to do is dance” Mr. Selbrade explained. Mr. Selbrade is a first-time parent, so even if he can agree that raising a child is hard, he’s interested in having more. Unlike D.J. Fintel, who’s quite content with two.

Mr. Fintel’s second child, Emerson Harper, was born only two and a half years ago. Although she hasn’t been around long, she’s really made an impact. “We wanted more kids until we had her,” Mr. Fintel explained, jokingly. “She loves to eat, sleep, occasionally smile, and hit her brother. But, we love her.”

Dan Sidwell and Lisa Reale are second-time parents as well. The married couple had their second child, Lauren Elizabeth, only four months ago. Mr. Sidwell is very much on the same page as Fintel, despite the short amount of time.

“Two kids is more than double the hard work” Sidwell explained. When asked if he wanted more he quickly responded: “Nope. Don’t tell Ms. Reale I said that.”

Several other teachers, including but not limited to; Ms. Bernales, Mr. McCoy, Mr. Tillman, and Mr. Haueter have all had kids in the last four years.

Even though the number of children at home and their ages vary between each teacher most can agree on one thing.

“I want my kids to be successful and happy in life” Sidwell explained.

“I want him to grow up and do what he wants to do, whatever makes him happy” said Selbrade. Just like your parents want for you, your teachers just want their kids to grow up to be happy and healthy.

Though, some have more viable goals for their kids.

“I hope she makes it through school without getting kicked out,” said Fintel.
