Batkid Saves San Francisco

Batkid Saves San Francisco

San Francisco shut down on November 15, 2013 to make a wish come true.

5-year-old Miles Scott, is a leukemia survivor. He’s been suffering from the disease most of his life. His parents describe the boy as a ‘shy kid’, unless he’s wearing his batman costume. The caped crusader is his favorite super hero. Which explains the wish he made to the people at the Make-A-Wish foundation; he wished to be batman.

On November 15th, they fulfilled Miles’ wish and set up a day of mock crime fighting across the city. Miles got to ride around with his favorite super hero, Batman, in a custom Lamborghini which had the Batman logo printed on the hood. Batman drove Miles aka ‘Batkid’ through the city and helped him defeat evil villains, such as, the Joker, the Riddler, and the Penguin, who are known super villains in the batman comics. He also saved a damsel in distress, who was tied to the cable car tracks and the New York Giants mascot, Lou Seal.

While the 5-year-old was living his dream, police officers were doing their best to make it happen. They closed off roads and escorted the ‘batmoblie’ around the city. They also had to keep fans in check as thousands of San Francisco natives lined the streets, to get even a glimpse of Batkid himself.

At the end of the day, Miles was given the key to the city, when being declared Junior Mayor, to thank him for saving San Francisco. He also got a framed copy of the special edition of the Gotham City Chronicle, the newspaper known in Batman comic books, which was printed just for Miles, sporting the headline ‘Batkid saves city’. Even President Obama took time out of his busy life to thank the mini-caped crusader, by posting a vine saying, “Way to go Miles, way to save Gotham.”

Miles’ father thanked the Make-A-Wish Foundation, for making all of this happen and the thousands of spectators, who came to watch his son live his dream.

“All the doctors, nurses and all the other parents that have to deal with the same thing we’re going through., I hope they get a conclusion to their illness like we’re getting”, Nick Scott, Miles’ father, told KGO-TV.
