There are many trends that are in our society. Some trends stay while others leave quickly.  One trend that is making its way through society is EDM music. EDM is a mixture of techno, trance, house, and dubstep.  The peculiar thing is that EDM has been around during the time when our parents were teenagers. Dance music came largely from the production methods of disco. This type of music dominated the first wave of electronic dance music in the 1980s and 1990s.

“I like when they turn the 90’s music into techno, because it got the party pumping, plus if you didn’t like the original song when it’s placed with techno beats you get to like the song better and it’s really good for working out because you tend to pump more weight harder than on a regular song. It gives you the energy to push the limit. To take the risk to see your muscle grow you don’t feel the need to give up,” Germaine Bannis said.

With the outburst of EDM, many things have changed and the people that have felt most of the changes are teenagers.

“This type of music sounds like the soundtrack of a 16 year old life,” Art Roberts said.

Adults seem to not understand why this trend has sneaked its way back in to mainstream society. Not only do parents feel that this music is a load of foolishness, but also some teenagers feel that this type of music sounds like “transformers using the bathroom.”

“There are no words; there is no meaning, just random noise. It has no soul. I like music with soul and meaning, like R&B, rap, and jazz,” Branden Denney, Field Sales Leader for Vector Marketing said.

Many people do not realize that EDM music will remain in society. It sets the right vibe for any occasion. Even rap artists are using EDM beats in their new rap songs. Anyone can find a need for EDM. There is country dubstep and rock or reggae mixed with EDM music in it. EDM fits everybody’s needs.

“It’s very upbeat; it puts me in a good mood. I usually play that type of music at work. Cause there’s no words so it’s very chill and it’s really not distracting. Cause it keeps everyone pumped and ready to do whatever,” Doug Sanson, Assistant Manager for Vector Marketing said.

EDM gives people a positive feeling.

“Not everyone understands house music. It’s a spiritual thing, a body thing, a soul thing,” Eddie Amador said.

It’s a way of expressing oneself. Many people will say it’s just noise but isn’t everything we hear just noise that we choose to understand. Some say it’s more than just noise; it’s a way of life.

“The fast beats tempo keeps me happy and awake. It just makes me want to get up and dance, to make some new friends and party it up,” freshman Salem Nelb said.
