Privileges Not Rights

Privileges Not Rights

Some seniors consider their privileges to be tradition, while others believe that they deserve it. These reasons have all been taken into account by the Freedom High School faculty, but there is a process that these privileges must go through in order for them to be granted.

“Administration reviews them and decides if they like them or not. They put the ones they like into play,” said Ms. Currier, Senior Class Sponsor at Freedom High School.

There have been plenty of privileges that have been requested; such as early dismissal at 7th period, early dismissal for lunch, senior lunch line, and one free tardy for first period.

“Honestly the most useful for me is the early dismissal at 7th period. It saves me so much time in the parking lot,” said Seung Park, senior at Freedom High School.

Some of these privileges have already been enacted in previous years. The administration has given seniors the option to paint their names on parking spots for small fee. They have also allowed for early dismissal at the end of the day, as long as the student has their senior identification card.

“At first I wasn’t so excited for the names on parking spaces, but once I saw the amount of student drivers there were this year I was pretty glad I bought one,” said Angela Cruz, senior. Now in order to continue to receive privileges, the senior class must meet certain regulations.

“We will be looking at how many seniors have tardies,” said Kevin Stephenson, Principal of Freedom High School.

Senior privileges are just that, privileges, not rights. Just as easy as they were given, they can be taken away. Seniors must be aware that their behavior has a serious effect on how their final year will go.

“Be on time to class and act right, especially at the end of 7th period,” said Principal Stephenson.

Senior year can be the best year of high school or the worst, it’s all in the hands of the seniors, Good luck fellow Patriots.
