Freedom Welcomes New Principal

Freedom Welcomes New Principal

Freedom High School is excited about the appointment of our new principal Sharon Morris.  Mrs. Morris was principal for six years at East Bay High School in Gibsonton. For the last two years she’s been a principal coach, teaching other principals how to work better at their jobs. As a coach, Morris was able to see many different facilities, evaluate what worked and what did not, and gather many interesting plans that will improve Freedom High School.  Now, she is now returning to the position of principal saying she missed working with the kids.  The excitement in her voice when she talks about freedom’s future is contagious.

“I love this campus and how they’re able to put all these kids into two lunches,” said Morris, speaking about the things she likes about Freedom so far. “Nothing’s really broken at Freedom.”

The school has been buzzing about what polices Morris is going to change.

“I want to renew a sense of school spirit and unity at Freedom,” Morris said. “I’d really like more of the student’s ideas.”

At the senior assembly this week, Morris discussed the idea of allowing phones at lunch.

“I’d like to allow phones at lunch, but it would come with responsibilities. Like, keeping the lunch room clean, getting to class on time, and for everyone to continue to do what their supposed to,” she said.

A known fact at Freedom is that we don’t have any senior traditions, nothing for the senior class to do, or leave behind once they graduate.

“I’d love for the seniors to have a tradition, we always did them at East Bay. The seniors should decide what they want to do,” Morris said.

Morris is ready and excited to take on Freedom and add something to the school.

“I believe school is a student’s job and that it should be their first priority, but I also want it to be fun for them. I want them to leave with something to remember,” Morris said.   “When people hear the word ‘Freedom’ I want them to think something great.”

On a personal note, Morris is married with a daughter, who has a daughter herself and another one on the way. Her son-in-law graduated from Freedom.
