Undersize Me?

Consuming only McDonalds for three months seems like a good way to increase your weight and lift your health problems. For a man in Iowa eating the fast food did the opposite. John Cisca, a science teacher in the Colo-Nesco School District in Ankeny, Iowa, ate only McDonalds for 90 days. From Big Macs to sundaes, people were surprised when Cisca revealed he lost 37 pounds during the three month duration.

When I think of someone eating McDonalds all the time I think of the guy from super-size me. Unhealthy and fat,” junior Janira Bass said.

What’s the difference if you’re a regular person eating fast food every day or if you’re John Cisca? Cisca ate 2,000 calories per day by balancing the intake of nutrients based on the FDA’s reference daily intake tables. This was done by combining different items from the fast food chain’s menu.

“I guess it makes sense that exercising while eating a balanced diet from McDonalds could actually be healthy,” Armwood graduate Mimi Cases said.

Surprisingly, his weight dropped from 279 pounds to 242 pounds. His overall cholesterol level went from 249 to 170, while his LDL (bad cholesterol) dropped from 173 to 113.

“I think more people that enjoy eating McDonald’s everyday should take the Cisca challenge,” sophomore Ada Diaz said.
