Before Mike Tyson and Jake Paul decided to have a boxing match, the event went through many rescheduled dates. After a long wait, November 15, 2024, was chosen. Celsius energy drinks were the headline sponsor, and the expected crowds were labeled as “massive”.
“Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson” was a professional boxing match between YouTuber-turned-professional boxer Jake Paul and former undisputed heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson. The bout took place on November 15, 2024, at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, and was streamed globally on Netflix, with more than 65 million people watching the event concurrently. Paul did win the bout, but not without loads of praise and kudos to Tyson.
“This had to be scripted how did Mike lose? Mike Tyson is Far more powerful and fast. In what world could Jake possibly have a chance against Mike Tyson?” Justin Harrigan (10) stated.
Originally, the bout was scheduled to take place on July 20, 2024, but was postponed due to Tyson suffering a medical flare up onboard an aircraft. The world was not sure if this would be a good fight. The world, at least Gen X was super excited to see one of their favorite boxers get up in the ring and have a famous “Mike Tyson KO”.
Unfortunately, due to Tyson’s age and health, watching this boxing bout created fear in its viewers. The fear of is Jake Paul going to KO Mike Tyson or is Mike Tyson going to have a heart attack? Tyson was out of his prime when he fought Paul. The fight failed to live up to its expectations, despite attracting a global audience and celebrities at ringside to watch Tyson fight. People in the crowd all wondered, “Is he going to make it?”
“Paul’s agility is far better than Mike’s. It’s sad to see a young guy with a big head and a lot of pride trash talk and beat Mike Tyson. And Mike Tyson let that happen and did not do anything in the fight, his old age shows” Brian Jimenez (10) states.
During the interview at the end of Tyson’s loss and Paul’s win, the interviewer asked Tyson if this was his last fight. Tyson, after a long pause said, “no I don’t think so . . .” this left the crowd hopeful that there could be more boxing bouts for Tyson in the future.
