Family can be anything you want. Your best friend, boyfriend or girlfriend, teachers, or even bosses.

Everyone has their own definition of family. Some believe that family can only be blood, whereas others believe family can be anyone you want it to be.

I believe your family are the people who look out for you and take care of you. That could be anyone. Family doesn’t need to be defined by a piece of paper.

For example, my best friend and I have been together for five years. We don’t go to the same school, but we still talk every day. We’ve been through accidents, fights, breakups, injuries and more together. We fight like sisters but at the end of the day we still love each other.
That’s what family is. Not somebody that reaches out to you once a year to wish you a happy birthday. Somebody that is there at all times, pushing you to be the best version of you.

If you put a limit on who you can or cannot call family, you will be miserable. Some of your biological family might not even stick around. Just because they are blood, does not mean they would take a bullet for you.

At the end of the day, you should never be ashamed to call someone family if they are not actually, related to you. Family is not forced, it’s by choice. And it is your choice on who your family is.
