Jared Shollenberger, the Tennis Menace
March 7, 2017
Jared Shollenberger is the Captain of the Freedom Boys’ Tennis team. As a senior in his fourth year of high school tennis, he has high hopes for this year’s team. The team graduated several seniors last year, so there were not big expectations for the 2017 season, according to returning players. However, their fifth victory in a row against King on Thursday, March 2nd, gave the boys’ team more confidence.
“We’ll probably win districts since we beat King,” Shollenberger said. “They’ve always had a really good team.”
Besides being on the tennis team, Shollenberger is also a four-year athlete on the Freedom Swim team. He finished tenth in the district in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:10.29. He was also the first one off the 200-yard medley relay at regionals, swimming the backstroke leg of the race, landing the relay team 12th at the competition.
“Swimming was a great was to stay in shape, but it was such a hard sport,” said Shollenberger. He still works out on his own, but out of the water.
Shollenberger was accepted into the University of Florida and Clemson University, in South Carolina. He was deferred from Princeton University in New Jersey, but he likes his odds of being admitted.
“I first applied to Princeton as my reach school, but after being accepted to my two other schools, I’m excited for college no matter where I go.”
The Princeton decision date is March 31st and he is already thrilled for his future.
