Next month, consumers expect to be wowed at the annual Mobile World Congress with the release of Samsung Galaxy S6. After a disappointing year for Samsung, including the less than spectacular Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung is looking to make a comeback.

The Korean company is rumored to head in a new direction to shake up the market. The company planned to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chip processor, but reports of overheating made the chip questionable. However, LG’s Vice President cleared up questions be asserting that the snapdragon has no overheating issues, and may run even cooler than most smartphones.

“I am very much aware of the various concerns in the market about the [Snapdragon] 810, but the chip’s performance is quite satisfactory,” LG vice president of mobile products planning Woo Ram-chan said. “I don’t understand why there is an issue over heat.”

Apart from the chip, the alleged specifications seem impressive. According to a leaked specification sheet, a 64-bit octet core (8 core) CPU, a 5.1-inch display, a 20 megapixel camera and 5 megapixel front camera, 2550mAh battery, and Gorilla Glass 4. The phone will be offered at 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB of storage. The phone also boasts a 4 hour use time with only a 10 minute charge.

A new and arguably innovative feature is the curved edge. The S6 will likely have a curved edges like the Samsung Note Edge. The screen will reportedly have apps on the edge and extra buttons to allow for better consumer use, a debatable expectation.

Undoubtedly, the phone will run on the new Android Operating System 5.0 Lollipop. Android Lollipop 5.0 offers over 5000 new APIs (documentation) for developers for new and different apps. The notification system will be displayed as cards on the lockscreen. A do-not-disturb option will also be available. A battery saver mode also aims to improve battery consumption by reducing functions not currently in use.

The event is expected to be held between March 2 and March 5, so only time will tell what the phone will bring to the table.
