Substitute Teacher Scandal

Substitute Teacher Scandal

On October 17th, Symone Green started her first day at Options Public Charter School as a substitute English teacher and didn’t even last 24 hours. Allegedly, a 17 year old teacher’s assistant began to flirt with Green, and rather than ignoring the adolescent’s advances, Green proceeded to give the boy her phone number. Throughout the day, the two communicated via text message. The text messages became explicit and the teen allegedly asked Green if she was “kinky” and she replied with “I don’t tell I show.” Among these text messages, the minor told Green he wanted to have sex with her the same number of times as his football jersey.

Later in the day, while almost all students and staff were attending the school’s Friday pep rally, the two met up in her classroom and Green performed oral sex on the 17 year old while he videotaped her without her knowledge.

Throughout the weekend the two continued texting and Green attempted to ensure that the teen would not tell anyone because “it is not right for a student and teacher to have a relationship,” she stated. However, the student had already shown the video to several members of his football team.

On the Monday following the incident, Green was charged with first-degree sexual assault against a minor in a significant relationship; she has plead not-guilty. However, the minor’s mother is now suing both Green and the D.C. Public Charter School Board for 11 million dollars, alleging battery, negligent hiring practices, and infliction of mental distress.

“I was a prosecutor for 13 years,” said the mother’s lawyer, Donald Huskey. “I would have no problem prosecuting this and putting a person in jail for a substantial period of time.”
