Squid is a food that can be considered to be pretty strange. However, in countries such as South Korea, it is a normal, everyday cuisine. The completely unexpected happened when a 63 year old South Korean woman bit into a piece of partially cooked calamari squid.  She became pregnant with twelve of them.

This real life “Octomom” says she immediately spit out the undercooked creature after she felt a sharp jab in her gums. Since it was calamari, it was supposed to be cooked completely, and then fried. However, it clearly was not thoroughly cooked, since one of the squid’s internal organs was intact and able to place the offspring in her mouth.

After a few days of sore and swollen gums, she went to a dentist to get it checked it out. She could not have prepared herself for what she was about to find out. That prick in her gums was really the squid implanting twelve baby squid under her tooth. These “spermatophores” were removed from where they were stuck in her gingiva, tongue, and cheek.

Although this occurrence seems like a one in a million chance, there have apparently been a few other reported cases of people ingesting raw or partially cooked squid, who have also fallen pregnant, in the mouth, of course.
