When it comes to animated shows, some believe it is better to have top-tier animation and others believe it’s better to have outstanding voice acting. Students shared their opinions, debating whether they’d rather wait for high-quality visuals or get content faster with stellar performances.
Students believe both aspects are essential, but sacrificing either one can hurt the experience.
“I want good animation. I want quality voice acting, because like the voice actors are like putting their whole soul into it, but the animation is like a stick figure. It doesn’t really have the same effect,” Zuri Moore (11) said. But it’s the same the other way around where the animation is really good, and the voice actors are monotone. I feel like you need to have the best of both worlds. You have to take your time and really put all your passion into the project.”
Moore (11) also emphasized the issue of studios rushing out content to maximize profits, noting that high-quality productions take time but are ultimately worth the wait.
Senior Darius Anderson (12), however, leaned toward voice acting, believing that even with mediocre animation, a strong vocal performance can carry a show.
“I prefer better voice acting, such as shows like: Invincible, because I like the voice acting. So voice acting over animation? Well, it depends on how good the voice acting is. If it’s not that good, then I would obviously like animation more,” Darius Anderson (12) said. But if you have the best of each one, then definitely animation, okay. But others say animation takes more time, while with shows like Invincible, it’s quicker because they focus on voice acting over top-tier animation.”
Anderson (12) also pointed out that waiting years for new seasons due to complex animation can be frustrating.
“I prefer voice acting because you get your show quicker rather than waiting three years for another season, yeah.” Anderson (12) said.
While opinions vary, one thing is clear: students value quality storytelling, whether it comes from breathtaking animation or emotionally powerful performances. Ultimately, the best shows strike a balance, proving that both aspects are crucial in bringing animated worlds to life.
