At Freedom High School, the debate over whether Artificial intelligence should be used in our school is going around, surveying students about AI. AI is becoming more popular all around us, some of our students and teachers see AI as a helpful tool for learning while some view it as a problem.
Some think AI is a great tool to use in our education.
“I think it’s part of innovating technology and eventually going to be used everywhere,” Ms. Serrano, a history teacher said. “I think it can help teachers when it comes to planning out things especially getting fresh ideas.”
Although Ms. Serrano believes it is a good thing, she believes that it could also affect students’ learning.
“Al can be both, if students rely on it too much, then it can definitely hinder their learning.”
Students like Shirley Rodriguez, however, are more cautious about using AI.
“I think not because with students, they be getting out of control when we have too much access to stuff like this” she said.
Rodriguez worries that with AI, students will most likely not learn anything when it is used too much.
At the same time Rodriguez acknowledges that there are good sides of AI, with the help of AI, it would be easier for teachers
“It could give teachers more time to make room for more lessons and stuff,” she said. “I think it can improve because it’s advanced technology, so it can teach you a lot.”
The debate highlights both excitement and concern about Al’s role in education.
