The Freedom High School girls’ lacrosse team played their first game Tuesday, February 20th against Steinbrenner High School. It was a tough game, ending with a loss of 2-11.

The game started off fast-paced as Steinbrenner scored eight goals in the first half. As they moved onto the second half, they became more comfortable and scored two goals by Zoe Stetson, 10, and Daniella Ramierz, 12.

“We definitely had a big improvement from last year. We might have bobbled the ball in the first half, but the team definitely became more comfortable. Seeing the hustle on the field was really great also because no one gave up no matter the score,” said Natasha Eriksen, 12. “The game was for sure a learning experience for the new players and everyone had a good time last night.”

“I think we played well against a very skilled team and it was a good learning experience for the newer girls and for the rest of the season,” noted Hannah Murray, 12.

With all the new girls on the team they did a great job learning all their positions in their few weeks of practice.

“We successfully managed to move the ball up and down the field. Even though we had a rough beginning, we finished strong and pushed through the pain and sweat,” explained Stetson.

The girls can only get better. With more practices and hard work, they will improve a lot in a few weeks.

“It was a great test to see where we are and we can only get better from here,” said Peyton Smith, 12.

“The team improved greatly from last year and I’m glad to see much more dedication,” noted Kayleigh Gonzalez, 10.

Even with the loss, the team is very excited to see what the rest of the season has to come for them.

“I’m excited for the rest of the season!” remarked Eriksen.
