4th Quarter Quest for Success
March 27, 2017
The fourth quarter has suddenly descended upon Freedom High School. Many students, especially upperclassmen, are undoubtedly becoming impatient as they complete the year. However, the second semester is not yet over, and it’s more important than ever to focus on schoolwork.
For juniors, this important year is filled with standardized testing and crucial grades. It plays a large role in determining their futures.
While seniors’ time in high school is coming to an end, they’re not quite there. Fourth quarter grades remain relevant.
Therefore, the following guidelines will help students succeed in the closing weeks of the school year.
- Don’t Skip
It’s tempting, but… Just. Don’t. Do. It. For seniors especially, the lure of skipping a class to sleep in or go home early may appeal to many. However, skippers face serious consequences and miss important information in classes that are still not finished.
- Homework Matters
In addition to feeling the urge to skip, students may also lose interest in doing their homework. It’s crucial to put an end to this behavior before it begins, as it will negatively affect grades that colleges will see. Students should set aside time to do homework and study each night so that they will be better prepared for the next day’s classes.
- Get Enough Sleep
The biggest challenge that high school students face is not grades, but sleep. Students spend their nights doing homework, playing sports or working. This frequently results in only a few hours of sleep each night. During this time of the year, it is especially important for students to find ways to be productive whenever they have time so that they are able to get sleep and be well rested to prepare for upcoming exams.
- Study For Exams
Exams- the painful, yet relieving endpoint of the year- are drawing near. While some seniors may not be concerned with exams, AP students still need to take an AP exam. Be sure to maintain focus and prepare in order to succeed.
By following these guidelines, tired yet determined students can manage to make it through the fourth quarter and start their future.
