Meet the Tallest Man on Campus: Alek Rojas
October 24, 2016
Alek Rojas is a Junior at Freedom High School and is arguably the tallest man on campus, measuring a staggering six feet eight inches. In proportion to his height, Rojas also wears a size fifteen shoe. Rojas believes it is all in his genes – his mother is five feet ten inches, his father, like Alek, also stands at a whopping six feet eight inches.
At some point, you’ve probably seen this friendly giant roaming the halls of Freedom High School. Rojas is usually a pretty reserved guy and can come off as quiet to most people.
Once you get to know him, he is one of friendliest people you will ever meet.
His primary passion is the game of basketball. Rojas, who has been on the Varsity Basketball Team since his freshman year, believes that this year will definitely be a change for the team.
“We lost a lot of seniors last year and it’s a completely new group of guys,” said Rojas. “We just need to find our chemistry, but we hope to have a solid playoff run as long we listen to our coaches’ guidance.”
When basketball isn’t in season, you’ll usually find Alek pursuing a variety of other interests. Anyone who has ever seen Rojas’ Instagram will know he is an avid fisherman. He enjoys traveling all over New Tampa looking for new trophy-sized bass.
Along with fishing and basketball, Rojas follows many other sports. Although he was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, Rojas shares a strong affiliation with many northern teams including the Pittsburgh Penguins, Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Bucks.
“Being tall is a pretty sweet gig,” said Rojas. “Other than my height I’m just a chill guy always looking for the next great opportunity.”
