Wrestling Team Wishes for a Winning Season

Jacob Ishak, Staff Writer

One of the lesser known sports at Freedom High School is wrestling. Wrestling is an activity that challenges athletes both physically and mentally. Under the direction of head coach Derrick McCoy, the Freedom High School Wrestling Team has begun its pre-season conditioning to prepare for the upcoming season.

Junior Tommy Barker said, “The conditioning has been great, but I feel like we should amp it up and make it more intense.”

“It [conditioning] has been going well and I’m having a lot of fun,” Junior Alex Kiester added.

So far, the wrestlers are enjoying their practices and feel good about the upcoming season. To prepare, they are doing mostly runs and conditioning.

“One of the main runs that we do is the bridge and occasional bleachers to raise our cardio. We also work on technique and a little bit of live wrestling,” described Sophomore Blake Schroger.

While going through these preparations, the wrestlers are building high hopes for the season and really believe that they can make it a good one.

“I think it’s going to be a great season and we are going to make more progress than last year,” Kiester claimed.

Barker added, “I think we are on track but I would like to step it up a bit. Overall we are doing well.”

All the wrestlers agreed on one thing, that they will be very successful in the future.

“We believe that we will win districts and a lot of us are going to either place or win states,” Kiester declared.

Overall, the team is very confident in their ability to produce great wins in the upcoming season starting on December 1st. They have put in the work and are confident in their ability to destroy the competition. The wrestling team is also looking for additional wrestlers.
