Congratulations Mrs. Lamour!
August 22, 2016
The new school year has just started and exciting changes have already begun. Along with all the new wonderful staff joining Freedom High School, Mrs. Lamour, a former teacher and Freedom High School Girls Soccer Coach, has been promoted to the Assistant Principal of Student Affairs.
“I love teaching and I miss it already. It was just more for me to progress my career and figure out ways to grow as a professional,” said Assistant Principal of Student Affairs, Mrs. Lamour.
After contributing her time to finishing graduate school and completing a six-month program to become an AP, she is eager to make a positive impact on the education and students at Freedom.
“Just looking at my administrators I became inspired to make better changes and on a bigger scale. I wanted to be able to have a bigger impact on education. As a teacher, you can have an impact on maybe 150 students a year, but as an administrator, you can impact the lives of 2,000 students, “said Mrs. Lamour.
This will be Mrs. Lamour’s first year as an AP and she is delighted to learn from the other administrators and work towards success with the school.
“This year as a learning experience, I’m just trying to learn as much as I can from the other AP’s and get to know the students more. I have a good foundation of kids that I’ve had when I was a teacher throughout the years. But there’s still a lot of the population I don’t know. It’s a daily goal for me to learn five to ten new student names every day.”
In addition to gaining her own office, she has also received new responsibilities. Mrs. Lamour will be responsible for taking care of discipline and policy at the school such as tardies, attendance, dress code, and lunchroom procedures.
“The part that takes up a lot of our time is dealing with discipline, but our ultimate goal is for student achievement and to help make all the students the best they can be and reach their potential,” said Mrs. Lamour.
As for the frequently asked question on whether Mrs. Lamour will continue to coach the girls’ soccer team, she will not. However, she is currently looking for a new coach to take over.
“As an AP you have to work other sports and other events, so you have too many other commitments that you have. You can’t commit to just one sport. I’m helping them right now to try to find a new soccer coach,” said Mrs. Lamour.
Even though she will be missed by the entire team, everyone is very happy and excited to see Mrs. Lamour progressing in her career and is hopeful in her contributions to the school.
“Although I am very sad to lose Mrs. Lamour as coach and a teacher, I am very proud of everything she has achieved both work related and personal over the course of my high school career,” said Senior Emily Dabrowski.
The staff and student body at Freedom are all very happy for Mrs. Lamour’s new chapter in her career and assured to see the positive impact that she will make.
