Tampa Palms Spring Carnival
April 7, 2016
When: Saturday, April 9th 11am-3pm
Where: Tampa Palms Elementary
6100 Tampa Palms Ave, Tampa, FL 33647
Come stop by the carnival this Saturday! There will be activities that the family can enjoy such as games, booths, face painting, auctions, drawings, cakewalks, and food trucks.
“It’s a ton of family fun for both kids and parents,” stated Steve Channels, a teacher at Freedom. Kids use tickets to play the carnival games, for which they can earn prizes.
Though it is located in New Tampa and raises money for Tampa Palms Elementary School, it is open for anyone to stop by. It is Tampa Palm Elementary’s largest fundraiser of the year, according to Channels. Last year’s fundraiser generated between 16 and 17 thousand dollars.
“Our Freedom students work many of the booths, though there are also parent volunteers and some sponsored booths… Last year, we had around 30 volunteers, but we now already have more than 70 signed up,” explained Channels.
The Class of 2018, this year’s sophomore class, will compose a large portion of the volunteers.
“We are excited to be a part of such an anticipated local event and intend to pursue such community relationships with fervor,” said Shelby Quay Ernst, President of Class of ‘18.
Many volunteers will also be returning from previous years.
“The kids do it for community service, but they end up having so much fun that all the kids that did it before end up coming back the next year,” stated Channels.
Though the event is from 11-3, students planning to volunteer can receive up to eight community service hours from 9am-4pm to help set up before and clean up after.
“Ever since I’ve been here at Freedom, for all 14 years, we’ve been participating in it,” said Channels.
