Where Dreams Should Come True
The Disneyland in California, has gotten the measles. Fifty-nine cases of measles have been documented so far this year, and 42 of them have been linked to Disneyland, nine cases have been reported in Arizona, Utah, Washington, Colorado, Oregon and Mexico. The outbreak started between December 15th-20th 2014, and has been brought to Disneyland from the parks visitors.
“Five of our workers have been diagnosed with the measles” said Disney.
For those people who don’t know what the measles are, it is a viral disease that starts with a fever, runny nose, coughing, red eyes, and a sore throat. It’s very contagious. There are hardly any cases of the measles anymore due to the vaccine that all children are supposed to get. But, a new age of parents have opted out of giving their child the shot.
“I suggest that children under the age of 12 months and people who have not yet gotten the measles vaccination stays away from the park while the disease still continues,” said Dr. Gil Chavez, the deputy director of the state’s Center for Infectious Disease. Chavez also recommends people stay away from other large places where large amounts of people attend, such as malls and airports. “Disneyland is perfectly fine if you’ve been immunized” states Chavez.
When asked for a comment, Suzi Brown of Disney media relations states, “We agree with Dr. Chavez’s comments that it is safe to visit Disneyland if you have been vaccinated.” Disneyland has not yet taken any actions to keep the park clean, and ‘measles-free’.
Measles is spread through the air, so there is really no way to protect yourself from it. Doctors recommend that all children and adults get vaccinated to protect themselves and lower the number of cases each year.
