The Fault in our Stars
Best-selling author John Green’s “The Fault in our Stars” is hitting the big screen on June 6, 2014. The novel was deemed #1 New York Times bestseller and is popular amongst teens everywhere. The story revolves around a young couple, Hazel Grace Lancaster and Agustus Waters. Hazel and Gus are not the usual couple that you’d find in a modern-day romance. The two meet in a cancer support group that Hazel usually attends because she has Thyroid cancer. Although Agustus has been cancer-free for a while, he attends the group to support his friend Isaac. Gus and Hazel both have imperfections, including his prosthetic leg and her oxygen tank. The two share a connection immediately and start out as friends. Hazel and Gus become closer and closer and end up dating. Hazel’s constant cancer-related problems cause bumps in the road but the two learn how to work through them.
The Fault in our Stars is a highly anticipated movie that stars Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort. You might recognize the two from “Divergent,” another movie based on a book. Shailene and Ansel play siblings in Divergent and love interests in The Fault in Our Stars. During the MTV movie awards on April 13, a new clip of a famous scene from the book was released. The “Metaphor” scene raised some controversy over the fact that it was not exactly like the book. John Green later released a statement on his Tumblr saying “that scene was word-for-word from the book, so don’t blame the movie! Basically, a 20-second clip from the first five minutes of a movie is not the movie”. Hopefully, the transition from the pages to the big screen will be successful. Knowing that John Green was there for most of the filming really puts faith into all the fans for a good movie. The main characters will be traveling the country for a national tour. “Demand our Stars” is a competition between states on Tumblr where you can vote for the tour to come to your state. Hopefully Florida will be one of the states that are included in this national tour.
