Song For An Angel

Song For An Angel

On Oct. 16th, 2013, Freedom High School lost one of its best.

Jordan Harris, a member of the boy’s soccer team, who graduated in 2013, lost his 2 year long battle with brain cancer. On the day of his death, several friends, teachers, family members, and class mates of Harris’, gathered on the freedom football field, and released balloons in his honor.  Friends stated spoke openly about how much they’ll miss him and that they’ll never forget him. One friend took an extra step at proving that.

Taylor Emery, a junior at FHS and a member of the girl’s basketball team wrote a song expressing her feelings about the tragic event.

“I wrote it as a way to honor Jordan” she said. The song is called Harris. It’s a rap song  with strong lyrics such as;  ‘Jordan is gone but I’ll never forget, never forget how he inspired me’ . The track expresses what she was feeling at the time, struggled, as many other people were, by the thoughts of Harris’ death. He was only 18 at the time of his passing. So young, with so much life still ahead of him.

“I got the idea for the lyrics right after his death, the words just flowed onto the paper” Emery said. She thought it was a better way of raising money in Jordan’s honor, than just any regular fundraiser. The song is now selling on ITunes and 75% of the proceeds will go to Jordan Harris’ family. Emery stated that she won’t know how much the song has made until January.

“I knew him thanks to my friend, Neena , she was Jordan’s girlfriend. She was on the basketball team last year and he was always around, offering support, and showing up at games. He was a great guy” Emery said.

Several people have already listened to the song and find it inspiring.

“I really like the song”, said senior, Katie Byram. “It’s got a great message and its great how the money is going to his family”.
