iPhone sales soar, while Blackberry comes to an end

Cure For The Crackberry As Company Closes

Last week, after 29 years of phone manufacturing, Blackberry  has finally decided to file for bankruptcy and close their  doors. In the same seven day time span, Apple released their new iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c which sold over 9 million units in a mere two days. Even though Blackberry had been the first company to introduce the integration of home and work through the cell phone, they have quickly been replaced by the newer and more popular iPhone.

On monday, September 23rd, the holding company for Blackberry decided to sell their assets and stake in Blackberry  to a French holding company for  4.7 million dollars. But why would they decide to sell the company for so little and now?

“They are going out of business because they have failed to position their products as something consumers wanted as opposed to something that companies have forced upon their employees. Apple came in with iPhones as a consumer device that also serve a business purpose Before you know it, consumers were using their personal devices (iPhones) for work.” stated an anonymous Apple inside source.

In comparison to other newer smartphones such as Androids and iPhones, the Blackberry has simply fallen out of date. The Blackberry smart phone was introduced in order to link a business person’s work life with their personal life so they could get access to certain work materials and stay in touch with their job at home. When the phone first came out, it was iconic and shaped how people worked from home as well as at work, as it was a major business tool. However, although it was very high-tech then, it is not as useful as newer products to hit the market.

Executives use iPhones and macs at home. They traditionally used Blackberry devices at work because of what they often referred to as IT (information technology). This changed when executives wanted to use their own devices which happened to be iPhones.

As Blackberry remained constant with their older business features and phones, Apple rose up in competition to create not only one of the first touch screen phones, but also to create a simple and fun universal tool in which a person could work and play.  As the iPhone’s popularity grew, it became Blackberry’s biggest competitor phone and eventually surpassed them in sales.  Today, years later, Apple does not need to compete with Blackberry anymore for they are gaining old Blackberry consumers as are new competitors such as Samsung and Android. Even though it started out as one of the largest cell phone companies in the world, Blackberry is now a thing of the past, as the modernization of technology has proven to be more useful and appealing than the more work related systems upon which Blackberry was founded.
