The Freedom girls soccer team finished the season with a record of 12-5, winning against teams like Steinbrenner and Wharton. To make it to regionals the team had to beat Hillsborough on Tuesday, January 22nd, and Sickles on Thursday, January 24th .

Freedom defeated team beat Hillsborough 7-0 with goals from Bethany Green, 12, Camryn Bliss, 9, and Jessica Magloire, 9. Winning this game led the team to their Thursday game against Sickles, who they’ve had over a nine year rivalry with.

The most important game of the season started with a goal from Sickles off a corner kick in the first half. Both teams continued to play their best but, the final score was 1-0 in favor of Sickles.

Losing this game meant it would be the girls last game of their season.

“There were a lot of emotions going into what was my last district tournament,” said captain Alice Bravo, 12.“ But I’m proud of how it ended. We started with a strong win against Hillsborough but we had a tough loss with Sickles.”

This game was especially important to the seniors on this team because the girls team hasn’t made it past districts in  four years and this was one of the most optimistic seasons yet.

“The whole team played their hearts out,” said captain Bethany Green, 12. “We gave it our all and that’s everything I could have asked for.”
