Beware the Falling Snow

Beware the Falling Snow

Genevieve Clark, Staff Writer

The hottest new film, The Snowman, is not related to the beloved Frosty the Snowman by any means.

This latest Scandinavian horror movie leaves the audience in pure shock. It is filled with multiple plot twists and talented actors. It is a perfect visual representation of the novel of the same name written by Jo Nesbo.

The movie is beautifully filmed in a stunning Norwegian scenery during winter, along with actors Michael Fassbender and Rebecca Ferguson. Viewers are left on the edge of their seat as Fassbender takes on the role of an alcoholic detective named Harry Hole who looks into the case of the multiple murders.

Ferguson plays Harry’s partner, Katrine Bratt. The two look into the case from multiple perspectives without realizing their serial killer was always one step ahead. The setbacks the detectives deal with are a bit exhausting, yet the murders are a constant thrill and the anticipation is simply exciting.

Every victim killed appears to be women who abandon their children either often or altogether. Hole and Bratt also notice their suspect always leaves a signature snowman at the crime scene, another eerie factor.  The detectives risk their lives to solve the mystery whether it’s sneaking into homes for evidence or coming in contact with their serial killer in person.

While the film tends to be confusing, with multiple back stories and constant changes of setting, it can still be described as a masterpiece of the dramatic life of a loner detective and the twisted mindset of a serial killer.

The film is still in theatres and will be released to DVD in January 2018. I personally recommend this movie to anyone interested in an exciting, thought provoking, murder mystery.
