Last year Freedom High School’s Boys Soccer team made it all the way to regionals after a devastating 4-10-3 (Win-Loss-Tie) season. This year, the team has been formed by the coach, Charlie Haueter. When asked about the players that showed up to this year’s tryout, Haueter said, “They’re alright, I guess. They can be better though.”

Freedom High School Boys Soccer is most likely going to be running with a more attacking type of formation. They are running with a 3-5-2 or a 4-3-3 formation, which both formations are very attacking formations. In the 3-5-2 formation, you have three defenders, five midfielders, and two forwards. Most of the power lies in the midfield for that formation. In the 4-3-3 formation, you have an extra forward for more attacking power.

Evan Castro, sophomore and returning player to the team, said “This year is going to be alright. We’ll be strong but I don’t think we will connect.” Kwame Amankwah, sophomore and also a returning player, piped in and said “We’re all going to get killed.”

The new team that has been formed has a lot of great talent but too much talent can be very bad. “One player to looks for,” said Brian Nguyen, sophomore and new player on the team, “is Ismael Hoar. He’s experienced and has been playing his whole life. He’s good with a ball and is a great playmaker.”

Some returning players want to change some of the ways of the team from last season. Matthew Daniello, a returning player to the team, said “We should be more serious at practice because what we do at practice translates into the games we play.”

Let’s hope this year the Freedom Boys Soccer team does well and hope that they can reach regionals again. Good luck boys and have a good season!
