Lightning Vs. Rangers

Lightning+Vs.+Rangers

The Tampa Bay Lightning have truly showed what they were made of while facing the Montreal Canadians during round two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, winning the series in six games.

Tampa Bay was up 3-0 in the series and the fans were given quite a scare when Montreal bounced back winning two games in a row, many thought Montreal was going to win four straight games and take the series.

During game six, Montreal just couldn’t seem to get their game going, the Lightning weren’t allowing anything to get past their defenseman which contributed to their 4-1 victory.

Ryan Callahan and Victor Hedman have posted up almost the best plus minus during the playoffs, with both of them having a +7, ranking them 3rd in the league.

One of the main reasons the Lightning played so well in game six was because they stepped up their physical gameplay.

Ben Bishop also posted up a 1.71 goals against average (GAA) and only allowed one goal in game six. The Lightning are now going to face the New York Rangers in the eastern conference finals.

The most valuable player for New York is their goalie, Henrik Lundqvist, he has the best goals against average and the best save percentage out of all the remaining goalies in the playoffs, he is also known as “King Henrik”

The Lightning aren’t too worried about the goaltending though, they have faced off against New York three times in the regular season and have won all three games.

Ryan Callahan, a forward for the Lighting, was the former captain of the New York Rangers and Marty St. Louis, a forward for the Rangers, was the former captain for the Lightning. Callahan, during the regular season, scored three goals and one assist for a total of four points in three games against the Rangers, surely he will continue this streak during the playoffs.

This series will for sure be a great series and it can go either way for both teams. “We just need to stick to the game plan” says Tyler Johnson.

Coach Jon Cooper said “Sometimes you just need to bring a gun to a knife fight” when asked about how they will face off against the Rangers.

Update: Despite great expectations going into game one against the Rangers, Tampa lost miserably 2-1 after a poorly played game.  Coach Jon Cooper said he wanted to vomit due to poor effort and sloppy play.  Goaltender Ben Bishop displayed tremendous effort due to minimal defense from the rest of the team.

Last night the Lightning were able to produce an impressive win, 6-2,  making up for their unexpected loss in game one

Update:  Tampa Bay Lightning won 2-0 Sunday night to take a 3-2 lead in the series.  Game six is Tuesday night 5/26.
