The Vamps

The Vamps are a British pop, pop-rock band created in 2013 founded by their popular videos on social media cite YouTube of covers by various popular artists. The band includes oldest James McVey (20) as lead guitarist, 2nd oldest Tristian Evans (20) as the drummer, 2nd youngest Bradley “Brad” Simpson (19) as lead vocals, and youngest Connor Ball (18) as bass guitarist.

This British boyband first gained their fame in the late 2012 when the four recorded multiple covers of songs then posted them on YouTube.  James McVey was already managed by Joe O’Neill and Richard Rashman of Prestige management when James decided he wanted to form a band. He found Bradley Simpson through YouTube, and he soon became the lead singer of the band. They then met Tristian Evans in 2012 through Facebook and in mid-2012 through a mutual friend the three boys met Connor Ball and began to upload covers to their channel. The four lads were then signed to Mercury Records in November 2012. “We’re all songwriters and musicians who have played our instruments for eight years or more,” explains singer Brad Simpson. “We take a lot of pride in that,” adds bassist Connor Ball. “I think the ultimate goal for us as musicians is that when people listen to our music they realize that it is all us. Not only that, but we would love people to be happy when they listen to our music and be able to connect with it any way they can.”  July 22nd, 2013 the boyband uploaded their first original song “Wildheart” (later retitled “Wild heart”) the boys also released the music video to single “Can We Dance” in August 6th, 2013, that received over 1 million views within two weeks. “I love singing along to the song “Wild Heart”, it is really upbeat and gets my pumped.” States Daniela Ramirez, a freshman at FHS.

The Vamps new album, “Meet The Vamps” has a track list of 15 songs, including hit single, “Can We Dance” that has an edgy vibe to it. The song had also hit number 2 in the United Kingdom. The band has been labeled as a “Boy band” following One Direction, although guitarist James McVey had said “We do not want to write the typical, ‘I really like this girl, let us go party and dance,’ type of song. We like being a bit naughty. Some of the songs are a bit provocative. To me, the music has an indie twist. Brad’s voice is not a typical pop voice. And I think that is what is exciting about the Vamps. It is important to us that people know our music has substance.” If you are to listen to the music from the boys, you can easily tell that it is not your typical bubblegum pop music, it has more of rock baseline put into it.
