FSU Sued

Just when everyone thought all the publicity about Jameis Winston, the star QB for Florida State University, was over. But, now his alleged rape accuser has decided to sue the university. She is suing the university claiming the athletic department knew of the incident in December of 2012 but did not tell the administrators until almost a year later. She is also stating that the university committed Title IX violations. Title IX is a right that protects students from being unfairly treated based on gender.

The suit was filed on January 7th 2015 which was coincidentally the same day that Winston declared he would be entering the 2015 NFL draft. This rape allegation has led to much publicity for Winston and the University. His charges were dropped by the courts when originally investigated and in December 2014 he was cleared after a hearing on campus about violations of the Florida State student conduct code.

Winston is expected to be one of the first QB’s picked in the upcoming draft. The NFL has a league security program that gives teams access to personal affairs related to their players.

“I reached this very difficult decision after careful consideration and long thought, realizing how difficult it would be to say goodbye to my family at Florida State,” Winston told AP about his decision.

Gil Brandt told the AP that NFL teams will find out everything they need to know about Winston’s background for league security.

The concerns now with Winston is that he has been a repeat offender with these off field issues. In 2014 he was suspended for three baseball games for stealing crab legs from a local grocery store. He also was suspended for the Clemson game as he yelled vulgar words on campus.
