With the February 14th date looming, many seniors are anticipating the release of the University of Florida decision letters.  The University of Florida also known as UF is a popular destination for many of Freedom’s seniors. As the 49th ranked University in the country according to the US News and World Report, UF holds the distinction as the highest ranked public university in the State of Florida.

Ironically on Valentine’s Day, the release of the decisions at 6 PM will change the future of many prospective Gators. Senior Sara Hearne is nervous about the release of the decisions.

“Since the 3rd grade, I have made trips to UF as my whole family has attended there.  I love the games and the atmosphere and I want to get a good quality education there,” Hearne said.

Of particular interest to Freedom students, the medical and engineering schools at UF are known to be particularly strong. One of the biggest attractions to medical students is the Shands Hospital.  “The Shands Hospital is a huge learning hospital that will supplement my education. I plan to volunteer there a lot,” Hearne said.

Engineering is also strongly emphasized at the University of Florida with several highly regarded professors and labs.

“The University of Florida is one of the top schools in Florida and I want to study engineering there,” Senior Klaus Vollmer said. “I am anxious about February 14th, and I will be nervous the whole day at school.”

UF is known for its strong focus on academics, but they also are known for their athletic program. They compete in the South Eastern Conference, and have won three national championships on the football field.

“The sports give you a strong sense of school spirit as students can cheer on the team,” Vollmer said.

“It’s going to be the best or the worst Valentine’s Day,” Hearne said. “I wish they would have made the release on an earlier date, I just want to know now.”
