On Friday, November 1st, Apple released its new and improved tablet, the iPad Air. Unlike its predecessors, the iPad Air has managed to weigh in at only one pound and retain a faster processor all while maintaining its 9-inch crystal clear display. On its first day, the iPad Air sold between 5 and 7 million units while the fourth generation iPad sold much less.

“The iPad Air is much lighter and faster than the previous one. They shaved off some of the sides to make it appear skinnier and smaller but it still has the same size screen. When I was first testing it, it was hard to believe that I was holding a tablet. It was so light I could fit it in one hand!” said an anonymous Apple source.

So what cool new features does the iPad Air have? Aside from being a half-pound lighter, the new iPad now has a 64 bit A7 processor and a M7 motion processor which makes it twice as fast as the previous generation. They have also acquired 457,000 special iPad apps and room for 10 extra hours of battery life in order to accommodate the average working person who takes their iPad or iOS device to work.

“Apple’s iOS devices, with their integrated device security, and App security, have transformed the way that businesses interact with their employees and their customers. From small businesses to large enterprises. In many vertical markets including legal, healthcare, hospitality, real estate, and many more, you will find business customers using [iPads] to run their businesses,” said the anonymous source.

In addition to its extended battery life for improved usage, Apple has added a free copy of the  iWork software which includes Pages, Keynote, and Numbers—the Apple version of Windows Office. As the company continues to develop, they continue to make the lives easier for the average worker and the people who buy their products, which is why they are one of the most successful companies in the world.

As stated by AnandTech, “Trying to summarize what makes the iPad Air special quickly turns into a list of things Apple likes to have with any evolution of an existing product: it’s smaller, lighter, and faster with absolutely no tradeoffs made in the process. The iPad Air feels like a true successor to [the previous iPads].”
