Long Live The Party

On October 24, 2013 fans of all ages, clad in their favorite band t-shirts,  rushed to the CFE arena in Orlando Florida for the  A Day to Remember House Party Tour. The tour consisted of four bands; The Wonder Years, Peirce The Veil, All Time Low, and the headliner, A Day To Remember. The genre of music was alternative, which consisted of several ‘rock on’ symbols being thrown in the air and heads banging to the beat.

The first band to go on stage was The Wonder Years which has six members, including lead singer Matt Brasch. The band qualifies themselves in the music genre of ‘pop punk’. The band opened up with their hit, ‘A Local Man Ruins Everything’, the crowd shouted loudly, almost as if they were one loud person. They went on to play three more songs, and then exited the stage. After a break, in which the DJ played several 80’s hits, the arena went dark, with a light source consisting only of several smart phones and cameras being used to document the event.

Soon the back drop lit up displaying the letters ‘P. T. V’ which stood for the name of the next band, Pierce the Veil. It brought the concert into a rough form of music, thanks to the bands post-hardcore sound. The fans screamed with excitement, as the stages marks lit up , revealing the four band members. Mike Fuentes appeared on the drums, Tony Perry appeared on stage right, Jaime Preciado appeared stage left, and lead singer, Vic Fuentes, waited for his light to turn on, then he walked into the shine, sending the girls into a fit of screams. The band opened their 7 song set list with the well know hit, ‘Bulls in the Bronx’. Several audience members were in tears as they heard the songs, which were always playing on their iPods, be performed right in front of them. Close to the end of the set, Vic Fuentes, walked out into the general audience and had the fans hold him up, as he tried to walk across them, it only lasted seconds before security pulled Fuentes back to safety. They closed their set similar to the way the last band did, thanking the fans, stating this was the last show of the tour, and thanking the bands they’d been touring with.

The third band up was the pop-punk hit, All Time Low. The band consists of four members, with lead singer and song writer Alex Gaskarth leading the way. The band wasted no time before thanking the fans, and the bands they toured with. They threw in several crude jokes, which the band is known for. They started off with their song ‘The Reckless and the Brave’, the single of their latest album. The crowd cheered along as Gaskarth shouted out the well known line, “Long live the reckless the brave!”. They got the crowd pumping, asking them to clap along to the beat and stopping in the middle of songs, so the crowd could finish the verse. After 9 songs, including the hit single ‘A Love like War’ with Vic Fuentes, the band closed their set, once more saying thank you to the fans, and explaining how much they loved the tour. They finished off by honoring their tour manager, Matt, who was leaving the band, after this show, to take another job. The All Time Low band and crew took a shot with him in his honor then left the stage.

Finally, the headliner was set to come on. The arena went dark once more and a video started playing on the stage. It showed the members of the band A Day to Remember, having a small party at their house, hence the name ‘House Party Tour’. Once the video ended, the screen rose up to the ceiling, revealing a small house prop on the stage. Music started and the garage of the house opened and the band members walked out. The six members, including lead singer Jeremy Mckinnon, took their spots on stage. The band broke out in their song ‘All I Want’. You could easily spot their hardcore fans in the crowd as they were the ones whipping their hair around and banging their skulls to the tune.

The concert was deemed a success, due to the fact that the merchandise tables were sold out at the end of the night. Even the tip jar, on the All Time Low table, sporting the tag ‘Tips for Disney World tickets’ was overflowing. The fans went home tired, dazed, and happy. All smiling widely, not even thinking about the post concert blues they’d face in the morning.
