Swim Team Makes Waves

Our swim team has been very successful this season. The amount of effort the girls and boys team puts in every day is extraordinary. In a competitive swim district, they have to work hard to keep winning.

“We have two hour practices. We do an hour and thirty minutes in the pool, then thirty minutes of dry land,” sophomore swimmer Jordan Gott said.

So far this season the practices has showed in the statistics, the boys are 6-1-1 and the girls are  4-3-1.

”Although it’s hard it’s helpful,” Vanessa Ruiz, swim team member said.

The drills being made within the practices are said to be helpful by the members.

“It’s more intense than before. Coach is trying to make us faster and stronger,” swim captain Caitlin Slater said.

They’ve won many awards. Last year they won the state competition. Boys swim captain Marc Berson has been district champion since freshman year.

“I’ve practiced with my club team called Tampa YMCA swimming to improve during my high school season. Many of the swimmers on the high school team this year are year-round swimmers, which has helped with our success,” Berson said.

Although they have a new swim coach they still have been very successful in keeping their reputation.

“I’ve had no struggles, the students are good and they’ve stepped it up,” Coach Piper said.

The swimmers have adjusted well to the change in pace that Coach Piper brings. They like what she’s done.

“She’s making changes for the better. She’s much more organized,” swim team member Jordan Shollenberger said.

This year they have an even bigger chance of getting into state due to the new state districts changes. Currently they are still undefeated. The swim team has been working very hard this year; they wake up early three days a week for practice and have been putting a lot of work in.

“The expansion of the districts gives teams more chances to play state,” Piper said.

We’ve had a great season so far, due to the new expansion of the districts; this year the swim team hopes to go to state and win the championships.

“We’re hoping to make it to Regional’s, I think we’ll win” Slater said.

After coming off a disappointing loss last year, the team has new hopes of making it all the way. Trying their best to treat every meet like it’s district itself.

“I think we have a better chance than last year not only because we’re more dedicated than last year, but because of the new district lines,” Ruiz said.

Though, the team is striving for the finish, it’s nothing without its Captain’s. Swim members Slater, Berson , and Jordan Shollenberger , have all the faith in their co-captains as they do their team.

“We’ve got great captains this year” Slater said.
The members of the swim team are very confident about this year

“I think we’ll make state this year,” said Shollenberger.
