Pop Divas Go Head To Head

Pop Divas Go Head To Head

It’s the battle royal of 2013 against pop divas Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. It seems as though their label, Universal Music Group, has pitted these two ladies against each other by setting the release date of their long awaited albums within three weeks of each other. Katy Perry’s “Prism” is set to release on October 22nd and Lady Gaga’s “ARTPOP” is set for release on November 11th.

Both Gaga and Perry both debuted in 2008. It is fair to say that they have shared the spot light ever since. Perry’s album “Teenage Dream” overtook Gaga’s “Born This Way” by overwhelming numbers upon release, and still continues to outsell Gaga by 700,000 purchases to this day. Though Gaga does in fact lead in YouTube views and Facebook likes, Katy Perry’s single “Roar” still overtakes Gaga’s “Applause” by about 340,000 purchases.

Surprisingly enough, even the fan groups, or fandoms, of these two ladies seem to be fighting to death for popularity. The KatyCats and Little Monsters have seemed to have started a bitter quarrel. This rivalry seems to mean no peace for the Twitter world. Things began to get so out of hand, the ladies themselves had to take to the social media website to calm the feuding, with Lady Gaga tweeting to her “Little Monsters”

“Let’s make 2013 a year where music/talent/artistry is more important than gossip/fanwars I respect all fanbases 4 their passion #BeTheChange”

— Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) August 11, 2013

It should be an interesting fall for pop music watching these two ladies battle head to head for pop royalty. Whether it is the Roar or the Applause you’re excited for these ladies are sure to bring it.
