Tampa’s only annual alternative music festival returns this weekend – with more in store than ever before. At the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre, radio station 97x presents Next Big Thing 2017 on December 2nd and 3rd.

Tickets are on sale through the 97x website. Prices range from $53 to over $400 for two-day tickets. One-day tickets are also available for purchase.

Next Big Thing has become a staple in Tampa’s concert scene, attracting big name bands like Twenty One Pilots, The Black Keys, Neon Trees, Fun. and Alt-J in the past. The event has been extended to two days this year, meaning a longer lineup and multiple headliners. On its 13th year, this production will feature 17 artists from around the world.

Next Big Thing is an interactive experience, not simply a concert. With two stages, attendees can choose how they want to experience the performances. Ticketholders are also eligible to win chances to meet their favorite artists, raffles and signed merchandise.

The venue includes lawn seating, general admission seats, VIP seats and a pit located in front of the stage. Those in the lawn area are encouraged to bring blankets, but lawn chairs will not be permitted.

The food and refreshments are supported by Tampa’s local food truck scene. Taco Bus is featured as a major supporter of Next Big Thing. One closed water bottle per person is allowed and food can be brought in a clear, one-quart plastic bag.

On Saturday, the show begins at 5:20pm and ends around 10:30pm with the Lumineers. On Sunday, the show begins at 10:00am and ends around 10:30pm with Paramore. The rest of the lineup includes: Walk The Moon, X Ambassadors, Vance Joy, Portugal. The Man, Bleachers, Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness, Saint Motel, Joywave, Magic Giant, Misterwives, The Aces, Barns Courtney, Mondo Cozmo, Arkells and Vinyl Theatre.

A positive culture is promoted by 97x. Their rules cover staying positive, smiling, being good to others, getting lost in the music and returning high-fives enthusiastically if offered.
