For the seventh year in a row, the Freedom High School Marching Patriots received a Superior rating at the Hillsborough County Marching Band Performance Assessment last Saturday. The Band had a selection of five songs for their show titled, “A Day at the Beach” which lasted approximately eight minutes.band-1

“We bit off a lot this year by prepping five songs, but I’m thrilled that we were successful and had a great year,” said Michael Barrineau, Director of Freedom’s Marching Band.

Not only did the Band receive Superiors at both competitions they attended, but the Freedom High School Color Guard did as well.

“Guard did really good this year. We definitely fought through all the different obstacles thrown at us this season, and we always came out on top of them, which strengthened us as a team,” said Senior Aaron Moreno, Captain of the Color Guard team.

In addition, the band had fourteen seniors that were recognized at the final football game of the season on November 4th.

“Marching band was one of the highlights of my high school career,” said Senior Carolina Cruz. “I’m glad I was part of this, and I’m really going to miss some of the underclassmen.”

There were some bumps along the way for the Band to overcome, but overall the Band seems to be pretty content with the way their season turned out.band-2

“We had weird weather and bad attendance at some points,” said Barrineau. “But Marching Band 2016 is definitely one for the books.”
