New Coaster Rolling In Soon

New Coaster Rolling In Soon

This summer on June 10th, Sea World will be unveiling their new roller coaster, called the Mako. The Mako will be the tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster in Central Florida. It will be 4,760 feet long (0.9 mi), have a 200 foot drop, and reach a top speed of 73 mph.

I believe the Mako coaster will boost morale at Sea World as something new to freshen up the theme park. Sea World has gotten boring; it’s the same thing over and over again. Orca whale, kiddy roller coaster, orca whale, bigger kiddy roller coaster. This record breaking roller coaster, properly called a hypercoaster, may just bring people back to Sea World.

But they can’t stop there: they have to keep introducing new attractions just to keep people interested. For example, their sister park, Busch Gardens, has introduced 3 new rides in the past 5 years: Cheetah Hunt (opened in 2011), Falcon’s Fury (opened in 2014), and now Cobra’s Curse (opening later in 2016). This brings in more visitors, which inevitably brings in more profit.

Sea World isn’t a far drive for students here at Freedom, so many students will go to the opening, which is coincidentally on our last day of school, June 10th. Even if it isn’t the opening day, I assume many students, not just from Freedom, will check out the new thrill in Orlando because of summer break.

“Yes, I will definitely go. I’m a thrill seeker,” said Bailey Manning, Sophomore.

“I don’t know if I will go; I can’t even ride Shiekra without throwing up,” said Freshman Jonathan Rivera. Roller coasters aren’t for everyone, but who can resist a ride on a record breaking “hypercoaster” in Orlando? I definitely wouldn’t turn down the offer.

This new area of the park will include shark- and shipwreck-themed gift shops and restaurants, and feature a tank with a variety of shark species. Make sure you take a trip this summer to ride Orlando’s newest addition to its roller coaster giants.
