Just like every other player on Seattle, Derrick Coleman is a Super Bowl champion. While he is no superstar on the Seahawks yet, his road to the NFL was humble. Born in 1990, the 23-year-old 6 foot 233 lb fullback is the first deaf offensive NFL player.

Coleman’s life story was powerfully depicted in a Duracell ad, “Trust your power”.

“Coaches didn’t know how to talk to me, they gave up on me, told me I should quit,” says Coleman in the video.

Coleman describes how he struggled in football and in school and how he was bullied for being deaf.

“But I’ve been deaf since I was three, so I didn’t listen.”

The video was uploaded on January 10th and now has over 15,000,000 views.

Coleman played football for Troy High School and UCLA. Undrafted in 2012, he signed as a free agent with the Vikings before being waived. He then signed with Seattle.

Coleman played on special teams during the Super Bowl. During the regular season he had 1 touchdown, 8 receptions, and 62 receiving yards.

Coleman is also an avid Christian, and received wide praise for giving super tickets to a pair of hearing impaired twin sisters who wrote him a letter of support.

“I always say that God blessed me this morning and I can do what I do,” said Coleman.
